Stoneware
Approx 21cm
These stoneware pieces draw inspiration from the stemmi or scudi araldici of Renaissance Florence, often seen adorning the walls of castles and stately homes. These plaques, with their intricate coats of arms, symbols and creatures told stories of noble houses and their legacies. I was captivated by the way these symbols were scattered throughout grand interiors and exteriors, creating a rich tapestry of history and identity almost like a modern graffiti on walls. In this rendition I wanted to celebrate the juxtaposition of modernity and tradition and the stories a wall can narrate.
All pieces feature an inlet from which they can be hanged on walls.
