Glazed Porcelain

P 21cm

Each fine porcelain plate is carefully handcrafted, with intricate illustrations rendered in traditional oxide paints. What distinguishes this plate is its departure from the typical rigidity of porcelain. While porcelain is often known for its precise, flawless forms, I have tried to reimagine it in a more organic light—allowing the material’s natural elegance to emerge through subtle irregularities in shape and form. As a result, no two items are alike; each piece is one of a kind, with its own unique character.

The unicorn is a powerful symbol representing purity, grace and spiritual enlightement. The unicorn can represent the integration of opposing forces , like the union of the masculine and feminine, or the idea of the alchemist’s quest for spiritual or material perfection. It also symbolizes the unattainable or the rare, representing something precious or divine. For me, it represents my childhood more than anything else.

The snake often represents transformation, healing, and the cyclical nature of life. The sun, in illuminated manuscripts and alchemy, is a symbol of enlightenment, life, and divine illumination. The moon in these contexts represents the subconscious, intuition, and cycles of transformation. It is often seen as the counterpart to the sun, symbolizing the feminine, change, and mystery. Stars are the symbols of guidance, divine influence, and higher aspirations.

Together, these symbols—unicorn, snake, sun, moon, and stars—create a complex tapestry of ideas that relate to spiritual enlightenment, transformation, and the balance between material and divine forces. Each one plays a role in the alchemist’s journey toward the philosopher’s stone, the goal of personal and material transmutation.
